Job Summary

Exxaro Resources is hiring an Artisan Aide to join the Matla Coal team in Kriel. This role is ideal for a motivated individual who is eager to support artisans with servicing, maintenance, and overhaul of equipment. You will work in a dynamic, diverse environment focused on innovation, continuous learning, and safe operations. The position plays a key role in ensuring machinery runs efficiently, preventing breakdowns, and maintaining a safe working environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 / Standard 8 Technical qualification (Essential)
  • AET Level 4 (Essential)
  • One of the following Skills Programmes (Essential):
    • AA Fitting incl. Machinery
    • AA Diesel Mechanic
    • AA Plater Welder
    • AA Electrical
  • 1 year technical support experience in a heavy industry environment (Essential)
  • Psychometric Assessment (To be conducted by Exxaro)
  • Certificate of Fitness (To be conducted by Exxaro)
  • Basic fault-finding and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform first-level inspections on mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Basic welding, cutting, and refractory installation skills

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist artisans with servicing, maintenance, and equipment overhaul.
  • Perform first-level inspections and basic fault-finding on mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Support the maintenance of production machinery to prevent breakdowns and ensure continuous operation.
  • Recondition components and spares, ensuring repaired items are tested before installation.
  • Maintain high health and safety standards, practice good housekeeping, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Wear required PPE and adhere to Safety, Health, Environment, and Community (SHEC) standards.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns to restore equipment functionality and reliability.
  • Conduct basic welding, cutting, and refractory installation under supervision.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, promoting respect, safety, and ethical conduct.
  • Remain adaptable, embrace continuous learning, and apply innovative approaches to improve operations.
