Fire Prevention Assistant

Job Description:

As Fire Prevention Assistant you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

  • Adhere to all health and safety requirements and promote good housekeeping to create a controlled risk environment for the team.
  • Discuss violations and unsafe conditions with the section’s representative, provide recommendations, and give instructions on fire safety practices.
  • Perform other inspection and safety duties as required for client facilities.
  • Attend training classes to stay updated on fire prevention, safety, and firefighting procedures.
  • Conduct fire prevention inspections and follow-ups to ensure corrective actions are taken for any violations found.

Fire Prevention and Maintenance

  • Assist the Fire Prevention Officer in preventing and extinguishing fires at the business unit quickly and with minimal damage.
  • Equip firefighting equipment with substances and appliances to prevent and minimise property damage and ensure the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Assist the Fire Prevention Officer in organising and conducting emergency drills, including fire drills, to oversee and assess evacuation and emergency response procedures.

Fire Equipment Inspections

  • Inspect new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with applicable fire standards, code of Practices and regulations (etc.).
  • Conduct daily inspections, maintenance and tests of firefighting equipment (fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, fire detection and suppression systems) are well executed and comply with applicable Codes of Practices,
  • Conduct inspections of firebreaks, emergency escape routes, evacuation plans, and emergency assembly points in all buildings, structures, and related working environments.
  • Inspect properties that store, handle, and use hazardous materials to ensure compliance with laws, codes of practice and regulations.
  • Assist the Fire Prevention Officer in maintaining fire prevention records and reports.
  • Provide information to assist with reports for inspections performed, standard violations, and recommendations for eliminating fire hazards.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Recommend corrective actions to supervisors and coworkers to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and fire prevention and maintenance program guidelines.
  • Respond to mine emergencies promptly when necessary.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as instructed by the Fire Prevention Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/ N3 Technical
  • Registered with SAQCC
  • Fire Prevention & Risk Assessment Certificate or Equivalent certificate example (HIRA)
  • First Aid Level 3
  • Industrial Fire Fighting
  • SA Drivers License Code C1

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in fire prevention and maintenance (Advantage).
  • Basic knowledge of applicable business communication.
  • Company policies and procedures.
  • Fire-fighting equipment and procedures.
  • Safety policies and procedures.
