Role Summary:


A vacancy exists for an Admissions Clerk in the Administration Department, reporting to the Patient Administration Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing full administrative support to the admissions and reception department.

Key Work Output and Accountabilities:

  • Capturing pre-admissions
  • Ensuring correct patient admissions as per procedure
  • Accurately and timeously capturing all relevant patient information
  • Managing payments made on admission
  • Performing general administration and reception duties during admissions
  • Liaising with medical aids to obtain authorisation for admissions
  • Operating the switchboard

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification

Inherent Requirements, Competencies, Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes:

  • Sound knowledge and application of patient administration systems, policies, and procedures
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 codes and tariff codes is essential
  • Understanding of various medical aids and medical aid rules
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of hospital procedures and medical terminology (advantageous)
  • Ability to work well in a team and under pressure
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Customer-focused mindset

  • Previous experience in a hospital environment
  • Ability to assist team members effectively
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain consistent performance
