Requirements

  • Grade 10.
  • PSIRA Grade C training from a registered/recognized training centre.
  • Valid PSIRA Grade C certificate.
  • No experience required.

Duties

1. Access Control

  • Verify if visitors have appointments or determine required services.
  • Contact relevant employees to confirm appointments or refer visitors accordingly.
  • Maintain and control the admission register.
  • Issue access control documents/cards.
  • Escort visitors when required.
  • Operate X-ray machines and walk-through metal detectors to detect unauthorized/dangerous items.

2. Building & Premises Safety

  • Conduct patrols to check:
    • Doors (locked/unlocked)
    • Water leaks
    • Fire hazards and exposed electrical contacts
    • Lights (switched on/off as needed)
    • Suspicious objects/packages
  • Apply emergency procedures (e.g., bomb scares, riots) and alert emergency services and management.
  • Monitor and respond to alarm systems.

3. Control of Equipment, Documents & Stores

  • Complete and monitor registers for movement of equipment, documents, and stores.
  • Ensure no departmental assets leave or enter premises without authorization.
  • Inspect vehicles entering/leaving the premises.
  • Report missing/stolen equipment or irregularities.
  • Handle documents according to classification and prescripts.

4. Operation of Control Room Equipment

  • Monitor movements, events, and activities on the premises using CCTV.
  • Ensure all security systems are functioning properly and report faults immediately.
  • Monitor access points for effective control.
  • Report incidents and non-compliance to the supervisor.

5. Incident Recording & Office Lock-Up

  • Record all incidents in the occurrence book/register.
  • Perform lock-up procedures for offices and access points.
  • Identify suspicious behaviour and follow up on incidents.
  • Report all security breaches and non-compliance.
