Job Description

Cummins is seeking a talented Apprentice – Engine Workshop Technician to join the Service team at the Steelpoort Limpopo site.

In this role, you will:

  • Support workshop operations through assisting with general activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness, inspect, and disassemble parts to ensure a safe and organized workspace.
  • Learn and apply Standard Repair Times (SRTs) for effective repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist with accurate documentation of work completed and timesheets.
  • Develop skills through training aligned with business requirements.
  • Care for workshop tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Report incidents or issues to supervisors for continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical/electrical products.
  • Disassemble and assemble engines or generators, replace and inspect parts.
  • Apply Cummins and industry standards for safe, efficient diagnostics and repairs.
  • Use specialized tools/software for troubleshooting and validation of repairs.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications & Experience

Option 1:

  • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12), plus:
    • N3 Engineering Studies (Maths, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Diesel/Motor Trade Theory, or Mechanotechnology), and
    • N4 Engineering Studies (Maths, Engineering Science, Mechanical Draughting, Mechanotechnics), and
    • N6 Mechanical Engineering (with 4 subjects from: Maths, Mechanotechnics, Mechanical Drawing & Design, Power Machines, Fluid Mechanics, Physics, Strength of Materials, Supervisory Management).

Option 2:

  • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12), plus NCV Level 4 (Engineering-related subjects including Applied Engineering Technology, Automotive Repair & Maintenance, Mathematics, English First Language, Life Skills & Computer Literacy).

Option 3:

  • NCV Level 4 qualification from a TVET college with relevant engineering subjects (as above).
