Introduction

A vacancy exists for a Maintenance Assistant based at Life Groenkloof Hospital, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring continuous availability of general building and electrical maintenance services to support hospital infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities / Critical Outputs

  • Responsible for all maintenance-related issues on a daily basis.
  • Attend to general maintenance enquiries from doctors and nursing staff.
  • Execute repairs and tasks as per job card, manager instructions, or ad-hoc requests.
  • Provide line managers with relevant information when required.
  • Supervise the daily inspection and recording of the medical gas alarm system.
  • Oversee daily inspections of vacuum pumps, medical air compressors, plumbing, and general maintenance.
  • Follow up on maintenance schedules for air conditioning units and filter changes.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum N3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical/HVAC.
  • Experience in repairing air-conditioning units (advantageous).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in general hospital maintenance (plumbing, painting, beds, door locks, carpentry).
  • Proficient in English with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work accurately, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and take on challenges.
  • Must adhere to NOSA and OHSA regulations.
  • Valid driver’s licence essential.
  • May be required to perform standby duties.
