Position: Compliance Officer

This second-line compliance role is accountable for establishing and maintaining a fit-for-purpose compliance framework, including developing and executing a Risk Management and Monitoring Plan.
The role focuses on embedding compliance practices across assigned business areas and supporting business units in meeting regulatory obligations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the establishment and rollout of an appropriate compliance control framework for the Centre of Excellence (CoE).
  • Provide assurance to segments and business units according to the approved compliance plan.
  • Identify and report compliance breaches to line management and the Compliance Manager/Executive.
  • Facilitate the resolution of compliance breaches and assist in mitigating compliance risks.
  • Conduct investigations into potential breaches and provide compliance risk-related insights.
  • Contribute to the development of annual CoE or Line of Business (LoB) Compliance Plans aligned to the Group Compliance Plan.
  • Manage junior compliance staff (e.g., Assistant Compliance Officers) within less complex business units where applicable.
  • Report functionally to the Compliance Manager or directly to the Compliance Executive as appropriate.


Core Functional Areas

Second-Line Assurance: Provide independent assurance on first-line controls and compliance with regulatory obligations.
Incident & Breach Management: Investigate and resolve compliance breaches, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.


Compliance Risk Assessment: Identify and assess compliance risks within assigned areas.
Governance & Reporting: Prepare and present compliance reports for managers, executives, and governance forums.
Regulatory Engagement Support: Assist with inspections, audits, and regulatory engagements.
Embedding Compliance Culture: Promote compliance awareness and training within business units.


Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric
  • Undergraduate Degree
  • Relevant FAIS-recognised qualification for Compliance Officers
  • Certificate in Compliance (advantageous)
  • CPrac designation (added advantage)

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years relevant experience in financial services and compliance
  • Sound understanding of legislation impacting the insurance industry, particularly FAIS
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of audit methodology (advantageous)
