Position Overview

Responsible for collecting quality, safe blood and blood products according to targets set for fixed and mobile blood drives.


Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

1. Financial Management

  • Manage cost per unit for whole blood and specialised collections.
  • Determine, pack, and load consumables per blood drive targets.
  • Maintain and validate equipment; ensure timely repairs.
  • Report consumable usage variances and stock discrepancies.

2. Customer & Stakeholder Relations

  • Manage stakeholder relations at blood drives/donor centres.
  • Welcome and guide donors through registration.
  • Assist donors with forms and queries.
  • Address and report complaints.
  • Coach team on customer service excellence.

3. Internal Processes

  • Collect whole blood and/or apheresis units to meet targets.
  • Assist with vehicle loading/off-loading and blood drive setup.
  • Complete donor assessments and documentation per SOPs.
  • Conduct donor recruitment and bookings.
  • Perform basic physical checks and confidential risk assessments.
  • Prepare blood packs and perform phlebotomy per SOPs.
  • Provide donor care, education, refreshments, and post-donation advice.
  • Initiate first aid/CPR in emergencies with support.
  • Complete all post-donation documentation and reports.

4. Learning & Growth

  • Perform Clinic Supervisor duties when required.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Assist with training needs analysis and staff competency management.
  • Complete relevant CPDs and POEs.

5. Governance

  • Maintain staff and equipment files.
  • Ensure compliance with SHEQ and operational policies.
  • Manage medical waste per SOPs.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.


Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in General Nursing Sciences.
  • Code B or EB Manual Driver’s Licence.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of SANBS policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of Standards of Practice for Blood Transfusion in South Africa.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation and company procedures.
