Job Purpose
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is implementing the project:
“Scaling up Ecosystem-based Approaches to Managing Climate-Intensified Disaster Risks in Vulnerable Regions of South Africa (Eco-DRR Project)”,
funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) with co-financing from SANBI, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).
This 8-year, USD 40.1 million project (2025–2033) aims to strengthen community resilience against climate change–induced floods, droughts, and wildfires through Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Eco-Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) measures.
SANBI seeks a self-motivated and skilled Administration Officer to provide administrative and logistical support to the Adaptation Policy and Resourcing Division in managing SANBI’s GCF projects.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Option 1:
- National Diploma (NQF 6) in Public Management, Project Management, Financial Management, or Business Administration (finance or project stream)
- 4 years of relevant work experience
OR
Option 2:
- Degree (NQF 7) in Public Management, Project Management, Financial Management, or Business Administration (finance or project stream)
- 2 years of relevant work experience
Added Advantage:
- Postgraduate qualification (NQF 8) in any of the above fields.
Key Competencies Required
- Proven experience in administrative and logistical support for environmental, public administration, or biodiversity projects.
- Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, systems, and frameworks.
- Strong experience in records management, office administration, project coordination, supply chain, and logistics management.
- Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure with diverse teams while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- High computer literacy, including MS Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet, and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of an accounting package (e.g. SAGE 300) is advantageous.
- A valid driver’s licence with at least 1 year of practical driving experience and willingness to travel.
Key Performance Responsibilities
- Provide financial and administrative support to the GCF projects under the APR Division.
- Offer office administration and logistical coordination for project implementation.
- Manage travel arrangements, meetings, and workshop logistics for staff across cost centres.
- Handle financial administration and reporting, engaging regularly with the finance division.
- Take initiative on ad-hoc tasks and assignments as required.
