Introduction:

Komatsu is seeking an experienced Artisan Assistant to join their dynamic team at Namakwasand. The preferred candidate should have 1 year of experience on heavy earthmoving equipment within the mining industry. The candidate will be responsible for assisting the artisans with general functions.

Minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 with technical subjects, or N3
  • 1 Year experience, technical environment experience preferably in a mining environment
  • Basic knowledge of workshop tools
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Valid drivers’ license (code 8) an advantage
  • Other certifications are an advantage (forklift, crane, welding) but not required

Specific knowledge requirements:

  • Exposure to earth-moving Equipment 
  • Having good troubleshooting on machines & familiar with standard tool requirements
  • Computer literate
  • Good understanding of maintenance philosophy
  • Good communication

Job Specification Summary:

  • Remains up to date with health and safety procedures.
  • Understands instructions according to planned priorities
  • Complies with and Instructs colleagues and subordinate staff in the wearing of protective gear and clothing
  • Operates any company vehicle (truck, car, forklift) within safety standards and procedures, even when not supervised
  • Moves machinery (HEM Machine) as part of service operations (cleaning, assembly, disassembly & repairs)
  • Operates machinery according to the Operator Maintenance Manual
  • Maintains safe operation of tools and within acceptable/prescribed safety levels
  • Assists artisan with specialised tools & diagnostic operation
  • Reports any problems/issues to artisan/supervisor immediately (during same shift)
  • Adheres to SHE policies and procedures
