Overview:


Umngeni-uThukela Water Training and Development Department, with support from the Operations Division, offers a one-year Water & Waste Water Treatment Learnership for twenty (20) candidates. This programme is designed for those who have successfully completed Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science and are interested in developing the necessary skills for a career in the Water Industry.

Programme Details:


Participants will engage in:

  • Theoretical and practical training
  • Attending classes
  • Completing a Portfolio of Evidence (POE)
  • Conducting practical work at water treatment plants in the North East Region, including Richards Bay and Jozini Water Treatment Plant

Who Should Apply?


The programme targets dynamic and ambitious matriculants with a strong interest in water-related careers. It’s ideal for those who:

  • Want to study, learn, and work at the same time
  • Lack sufficient matric points for tertiary education
  • Have studied Mathematics and Physical Science

Minimum Requirements – Applicants Must:

  • Be unemployed
  • Have studied Mathematics and Science at Matric level
  • Be youth up to the age of 35
  • Reside in deep rural areas of:
    • uMkhanyakude District, or
    • uMzimto District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal
  • Be Grade 12 qualified
  • Applicants with disabilities are encouraged to apply

❗ Note: This programme is not open to candidates with any qualification at NQF level 5 or above.
Only applicants from within uMngeni-uThukela Water areas (uMkhanyakude, uMzimto District Municipality) are eligible.

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • South African ID copy (certified)
  • Mid-Term Matric school report
  • Proof of residence (letter from the Traditional Authority Office)
  • Short motivational letter from the student
  • Affidavit confirming unemployment
